INDIAN MINISTER OF HEALTH ABOUT
MAHARISHI AYURVEDA

The Minister of State for Health of the Indian government, Panabaka Lakshmi, informed herself in Bad Ems about the development of Ayurveda in Germany.

In context with a tour through Germany the Indian Minister of State for Health paid the Ayurveda Health centre a visit to inform herself about the extent and quality of Ayurveda in German Ayurveda establishments. Therapy, education, research and quality control took centre stage of the discussion, also attended by Consul General of the Indian Embassy Frankfurt, Ashok Kumar, the Lord Mayor Ottmar Canz as well as Shantanu Banerji and Gudrun Buchzik of the company MTC, Maharishi Ayurveda Products.

The most important program point was a guided tour through the 1.400 m² sized clinic and therapy rooms while the senior physician Dr. Karin Pirc explained the complexity and procedure of the Ayurvedic treatment. For the subsequent two hour presentation of studies and publications about the Maharishi Ayurveda as well as the educational policies of the German Society for Ayurveda (DGA) and the quality standards of the over 800 controlled Maharishi Ayurveda products the group withdrew itself to the clinic's Garden Saloon.

The Minister of Health was impressed of the Maharishi Ayurveda studies on the subject of prevention of cardiovascular diseases. The research works that are financed by the American government are the basis of a close co-operation which is currently set up by the Ayurveda Health Centre in Bad Ems and a highly specialized cardiological practice in a nearby located specialized clinic. Dr. Karin Pirc also explained the studies about the subjects of detoxification, anti-aging and the reduction of environmental toxins in the body. She emphasized that additional scientific Ayurveda research would be desirable. At this a bridge could easily be build via the German Society for Ayurveda (DGA), in whose scientific advisory board quite a number of scientists and some of the best-known Indian Ayurveda experts are represented, between Indian and German research activity. Since more than a decade the DGA trains German physicians to be Ayurveda physicians partly under the guidance of physicians and professors of Indian universities.

Controlled quality, supervision of the raw materials and internationally
certified processes of manufacture for Maharishi Ayurveda products were presented by Shantanu Banerji and Gudrun Buchzik of the company MTC, Maharishi Ayurveda Products. Thanks to the conduct of important certificates like DIN ISO, HACCP, WHO-GMP and of the BDIH and BIO seals one would set norms for purity and quality of Ayurvedic products.

The Minister of State Lakshmi was delighted about the words of Bad Ems' Lord Mayor Ottmar Canz. His town, so he explained, also had internationally become an attractive target for health seekers again. This would be owed to a large section to the Ayurveda clinic. He thanked for the visit in his town with the famous Emser Pastillen and a picture volume of the spa town on the Lahn.

A joint lunch for which the former chef de cuisine and well-known Ayurveda cook Frank Lotz had prepared a five-course meal was the conclusion of the Indian governmental visit. Lothar Pirc, the Managing Director of the Ayurveda Health Centre Bad Ems, accompanied the delegation to a concluding sightseeing tour through the UNESCO world cultural heritage of the middle Rhine.

In the face of the press the minister said she wanted to inform herself how "the Indian government could support Ayurveda in Germany." The Maharishi Ayurveda team in Bad Ems is sure that the presentation of the clinic could contribute valuable suggestions and knowledge for that.
